Study on Dustfall and Its Effect on Soils in Hotan, Xinjiang

The ground visibility is less than 10.0 km when a floating dust occurs. In China floating dust occurs mainly in central China and west China. Dustfall means the dust grains larger than 10 μm fall on the ground by their gravity. Floating dust has been extensively paid a great attention to because it is harmful to the people's health, changes the balance of atmospheric radiation, and affects the photosynthesis of plants, properties and composition of soils. Hotan is a region with the most serious floating dust in China, the region is characterized by arid climate, low natural soil fertility and serious soil salinization, and it has an important theoretical and practical significance to research the floating dust and its effect on the physical and chemical properties of soils in Hotan. Based on the field stationed experiments and the laboratory analyses, this paper discusses the physical and chemical properties of dustfall and its effect on the soil properties in the Hotan region, Xinjiang, China. The results show that dustfall plays an important role in changing the soil properties.
