The Investigation on the Sewage Outlets and the Analysis on the Water Pollution along the Mainstream of Tarim River

The Tarim River is the longest continental river in China. Along with the rapid economic development in the watershed, the excessive exploitation and utilization of water resources and the increase of the volume of drained sewage in the upper reaches, the stream flow in the middle and lower reaches of Tarim River is reduced, and the water pollution becomes more serious year by year. Thus, the production of agriculture and animal husbandry has been seriously influenced, and some serous ecological problems occur in the lower reaches of Tarim River. The investigation shows that there are 8 sewage outlets with annual quantities of drained sewage over 1.0×107 t, and they are all distributed along the upper reaches of the mainstream of Tarim River. The stream water of the mainstream of Tarim River is almost polluted by the wastewater drained from the farmlands. The pollutants include mainly the ions of chlorine, acid radical, calcium, magnesium, potassium permanganate index, chemical oxygen consumption, etc. The calculation shows that the total annual quantity of soluble salts drained into the mainstream of Tarim River is as high as 8.353×106 t, which is dominated by chlorine ion (3.127×106 t); in which a quantity of 2.652×106 t is drained from the Kuxinsha Trunk Escape Canal, and the areas along this escape canal should regarded as the main harnessing regions.
