Uncertainty of the Quantitative Analysis on Landscape Patterns

Landscape ecology plays an important role in the conservation and regeneration of ecological environment and quantitative analysis on landscape patterns has become as an important quantitative method in researching landscape ecology including the composition characteristics of landscape structure and the spatial distribution of landscapes along with the development of remote sensing and geographical information system. However, the uncertainty of the quantitative analysis on landscape patterns restricts the development of landscape ecology and its guiding significance in practices. How to find a solution of the uncertainty of quantitative analysis on landscape patterns is an important research subject of landscape ecology. In this paper, the occurrence, transfer and accumulation of the uncertainty of quantitative analysis on landscape patterns at the different stages are discussed based on the data sources, analysis method and process as well as explanation of the quantitative analysis on landscape patterns, and the solution of the uncertainty of quantitative analysis on landscape patterns is researched. It is considered that the uncertainty of quantitative analysis on landscape patterns should be paid a great attention to, especially in evaluating the precision of the classified results of landscapes and analyzing the confidence. It is suggested to systematically research the uncertainty of quantitative analysis on landscape patterns based on the theories of remote sensing, geographical information system, spatial modeling, geography, ecology, etc. so as to promote the further development of landscape ecology.
