Study on the Properties and Pollution of Urban Soils in Urumqi

In this paper,the physicochemical properties,contents of nutrients and heavy metal pollution of urban soils in Urumqi are researched.The results are as follows:(1) Comparing with the background values,the alkalescence of urban soils in Urumqi is high,the content of organic matter is also high,especially in the commercial and industrial areas,and it is different from different functional regions;the urban soils are dominated by silt,then by clay,and the content of sand is low but that of course sand 2 mm is high;(2) The content of nitrogen in urban soils is low,and it is significantly different from different regions,it,however,is high in parks and gardens because the soils are manly transported from farmlands in suburbs and the properties of farmland soil are remained;an obvious phosphorus accumulation occurs in urban soils in Urumqi,the phosphorus content is significantly different from different regions,and it is high in the commercial areas densely populated;the content of available phosphorus is also high,and there is an extremely significant positive correlation between the contents of available phosphorus and total phosphorus;(3) The contents of Cr,Cu, Pb and Zn in urban soils in Urumqi are very high,that of Mn and Fe are not so high;the spatial distribution of heavy metals are quite different from different functional regions except that of Mn and Fe,the content of Cr is the highest in the regions with busy transportation,and that of Cu is the highest in the industrial areas.These accord with the pollution sources;the high contents of Zn and Pb in the commercial areas are related to the busy transportation,low vegetation coverage and extensive human activities.
