Analysis on the Characteristics of a Strong Squall Line Process

A strong squall line developed in the Wuqi region at 15:00 on May 30,2005,then it shifted rapidly southeastward,and its duration was as long as 9 hours.Thus,strong wind,thunder storm and rainstorm occurred,in which the maximum diameter of hail occurred in the Xunyi region from 20:00 to 22:00 was 60 mm, the maximum wind speed in the Dingbian Region was as high as 28 m/s,and the maximum rainfall intensity in the Wuging region was 29 mm/h,and a serious economic loss was resulted in.In this paper,a strong squall line process occurred in Shaanxi Province on May 30,2005 is analyzed using some related weather data,satellite cloud photographs and weather radar data.The results show that the dynamic force and thermal conditions of forming the squall line were the convergence of cold air from Mongolia cold vortex and the warm-humid air current before west trough to form the convectional system(M β CSs) at moderate β scale;the rapid development and southward shift of M β CSs was caused by a strong unstable stratification and the shear line of suitable vertical wind;a heavy hail occurred after a vertical liquid water content over 65 kg/m2 was firstly measured by weather radar;a sharp reduction of VIL indicates that a disaster strong wind will occur at soon.
