STUDIES ON THE DIFFERENCES OF SALT TOLERANCE BETWEEN SEED GERMINATION AND SEEDLING OF ALFALFA CULTIVARS

The salt tolerances of 9 varieties of Alfalfa Cultivars in the stagesof seed germination and seedling have been studied by imitating the saltscomponents in the elbow area of the Yellow River, Inner Mongolia. Theresults show that the critical salt contents the alfalfas could tolerated inthe stages of seed germination and seedling are different, respectively about1.0% and 0.7%. The seedlings are more sensitive to salts than the seedsin germination. By evaluating comprehensively, the tolerance order of 9varieties of alfalfa cultivars is, Yuxian = Zhungeer≥ShawanXinjiangKanghan = Russian No. 36 = Gongnong No. 1≥YanggaoGongnong No. 2 =Alfalfa.
