The Spatial Characters of Surface Water Quality and Its Controlling Factors in Xi'an City

The spatial characters of surface water of Xi'an in 2005 was assessed by the method of visible GIS.The results showed that the seriously polluted area were Nongchangxizhan,Yanqiumen monitoring stations which located at the Zaohe River,the end of Xinhe River and the end of Linhe River,of which the Zaohe River was the worst.Pollutants in the surface water mainly were petrochemicals,and the other important pollutants included volatile phenol,BOD,NH3-N and TN;Based on the structure of socio-economy,the factors affected the surface water quality in Xi'an were analyzed.Results indicated that the industry was the important factor which affecting the spatial changes of surface water quality,especially the pollution of paper making.The policy of controlling pollutant sources was the important factor affecting the dynamic change of Xi'an surface water quality.
