Temporal and spatial variations of groundwater depth in Shiyang River basin

The Shiyang River basin is located in arid area of northwest China.The groundwater level of this region has been dropping drastically due to excessively exploiting of groundwater resources.The spatial and temporal variations of groundwater level play a significant role in water resource management and ecological protection.In this paper,the groundwater mineralization from 1981 to 2003 in the Shiyang river basin was interpolated using inverse distance weighting(IDW) method.Moreover,the reasons causing variations of groundwater level and the influences on environment and social impacts were discussed,some corresponding countermeasures and suggestions were put forward.
