Analysis of wind speed variation period and abrupt change in Inner Mongolia over the past 50 years

The characteristics of wind speed variations,including the wind speed variations of annual average wind,seasonal wind,wind speed oscillation cycles and abrupt change in Inner Mongolia were analyzed based on the observed daily mean wind speed data from 1963 to 2012 in 95 ground meteorological stations. The results showed that the annual average wind speed had reduced significantly at the speed of- 0. 24m·s- 1/10 a in Inner Mongolia. The variation had presented a reducing trend for the seasonal mean wind and the wind speed in spring decreased sharply,followed by winter and autumn and gently decreased in summer. The wind velocity variability in Inner Mongolia displayed 3 years and 5 ~ 6years oscillation cycles,particularly obvious in the late 1960 s to the early 1970 s. There were abrupt changes for the annual average wind speed in 1980 s and the wind velocity in four seasons also have experienced descending abrupt changes in the last 50 years,the early one occurred in spring in1978.
