Dynamic characteristics of soil water in Eucalyptus plantation at different time scales in western Hainan

In order to explore the change process and characteristics of soil water and their mechanism of formation in the Eucalyptus forests at different time scales, six Eucalyptus forest plots in Danzhou Forest Farm, Hainan, were selected to continuously monitor the meteorological factors and the soil water in 0-150 cm soil layer for 8 years. The results showed that: 1) The soil water on the sunny day was stable while that on the rainy day increased nonlinearly with the increase of precipitation. On the sunny day, the soil water was significantly positively correlated with the relative humidity(p0.01), whereas the correlations between the soil water and solar radiation, temperature were not significant(p0.05). On the rainy day, there was a significant positive correlation between the soil water and the precipitation(p0.01), but not the solar radiation, temperature and relative humidity(p0.05). 2) The soil water was higher for a long period at the monthly scale, reaching the highest value of 10.27 % in the late rainy season(September), and the lowest value of 7.43% at the end of the dry season(April). At the monthly scale, the soil water was significantly positively correlated with precipitation(p0.01), but not significantly correlated with solar radiation, atmospheric temperature and relative humidity(p0.05). 3). Over the past eight years, the difference of annual rainfall was obvious(p0.01), but the soil water in different soil layers did not show obvious difference(p0.05). The soil water remained relatively stable, which implied that Eucalyptus planting had small negative impact on soil water of 0-150 cm soil layer at multi-year scale in the semi-humid and semi-arid regions of the tropics.
