Relationships between stem sap flow rate of Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. var. zhangwuensis and environmental factors

In this study, the sap flow rate of Pinus densiflora var. zhangwuensis, an important windbreak and sand fixation species, was monitored continuously using a thermal dissipation probe(TDP) method during the whole growing season, combined with simultaneous observations of precipitation, soil moisture, solar radiation and other environmental factors. The seasonal variation of J_s of sand-fixing tree species, as well as the effects by environmental factors have been analyzed. The results showed that:1) The diurnal variation of J_s in P. densiflora var. zhangwuensis presented a single-peak curve in sunny day. 2) There is a typical seasonal variation of J_s. The highest J_s appeared in July, and the smallest one appeared in June due to serious soil water deficit. 3) The ratio of sap flow rate to solar radiation(J_s/R_s) correlated to soil moisture content positively in rainy season, while the relations in dry season is not clear. The value of J_s showing a typical threshold responded to soil moisture content with a sharply declining.
