TRUSS SECONDARY MOMENT AND WIDTH-THICKNESS RATIO OF PLATE ELEMENTS

It is examined that composing plate elements of truss tension and compression members for the possibility of buckling under compressive yielding caused by secondary moment.It is also concluded that there is no need to limit the width-thickness ratio of tension members,whereas for compression members,strictly limiting this ratio is only necessary in a narrow range,i.e.,when member buckling does not dominate in the design.
