Experimental Research on Surface Roughness of Aluminum Alloy Blade in HSM

A HSM test for aluminum alloy impeller's blade with carbide ball-end cutter was carried out.The influence of cutting speed and feed rate on the surface roughness of machined blade was investigated.The experiment results show that the influence of feed per tooth on surface quality is larger than that of path-interval in the high-speed machining;the high quality surface can be obtained easily by increasing the cutting speed and decreasing the feed engagement;but once the cutting speed excess a critical range,the decrease of surface roughness as increasing of cutting speed was not obvious;while the feed engagement decreased to a very small value,the roughness increased a little.It is expected that the lower surface roughness and higher machining efficiency can be obtained by selecting the appropriate cutting speed and feed rate in HSM for aluminum alloy blades.
