A Histochemical Study on the Acid α-Naphthyl Acetate Esterase of the Scallop Chlamys Farreri

The acidic α-naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) of the scallop Chlamys farreri were studied by histochemical localisation technique.The results showed that all of the epithelial cells and the blood sinus in most organs of Chlamys farreri, including mantale, gill, labial palp, mouth labia, stomach, intestines, rectum, digestive diverticula, kidney, gonad, heart and adductor muscle, present very strong ANAE positivity (++++). The haemocytes present strong ANAE positivity (+++). The connective tissues and muscular fibres present ANAE positivity(++) or weakly positivity (+). The liver acini of digestive diverticula present ANAE positivity. The kidney tubules present strong ANAE positivity. The folliculi of gonad present very strong ANAE positivity.
