Simulation study on engine operation control for electromagnetic coupling hybrid electric vehicles

An electromagnetic coupling dual electric machine(generator+motor)applied in hybrid electric vehicle(HEV)is investigated,which is unique in the sense that no such complex mechanical components are needed,but still the advan- tages of the power-split HEV are exploited.A novel engine control strategy(NECS)is developed as the basis for the maximal efficiency of the electromagnetic coupling system in order to improve fuel economy.A simulation model of the electromagnetic coupling hybrid electric bus,which has been implemented in Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow,is adopted to assess and verify the performance of the NECS.Results indicate that fuel economy is improved by 5.6% compared with the conventional control strategy over the driving-cycle of Shanghai bus.
