Synthesis of 5-(4-methoxyphenylazo)-8-aminoquinoline (MOPAQ) and Its Color Reaction with Palladium

In this paper, 5-(4-methoxyphenylazo)-8-aminoquinoline (MOP AQ) has been synthesized. The product was checked by elemental analysis and IR. A simple, rapid and selective spectrophotometric method using this reagent has been developed for the determination of palladium in aqueous. In the presences of TPB, MOPAQ reacts with palladium in acidic medium, forming a violet -blue complex in the ratio of 1 : 1. Maximum absorbance of the complex is at 565nm with molar absorptivity 6.7×10~4L · mol~(-1)·cm~(-1).Beer/ s law is obeyed over the concentration range of 0~0. 4ppm of palladium. This method has better selectivity. It has been used for the determination of microamount palladium in catalysts, and good results are obtained.
