Studies on the Synthesis of 1-(2-naphthalene)-3-(2-thiazole)-triazene and Its Application for the Spectrophotometric Determination of Palladium(Ⅱ)

A new reagent, 1-(2-naphthalene)-3-(2-thiazole)-triazene (NTT), was synthesized and characterized by IR and elementary analysis. The application of NTT as a chromogenic reagent for the determination of Pd(Ⅱ) was studied. The results pointed out that the color reaction between Pd(Ⅱ) and NTT could occur, and the absorbance of this reaction system increases linearly with the concentration of Pd(Ⅱ) in the range of 0.10~1.75μg/mL with the absorption coefficient of 4.07×104 L·mol-1·cm-1. A new spectrophotometric method for the determination of Pd(Ⅱ) was then proposed using NTT as chromogenic reagent based on this reaction. This method, which is simple and of good selectivity, has been applied satisfactorily to the determination of palladium in the catalyst samples.
