Spectrophotometric Determination of Palladium(Ⅱ) with 5-(3-Carboxylphenylazo)-8-Aminoquinoline

A new reagent 5-(3-carboxylphenylazo)-8-aminoquinoline (m-CPAQ) was synthesized. Palladium(Ⅱ) reacts with m-CPAQ to form a violet-blue ternary complex in the presence of Tween-80 and Triton X-100 in the medium of pH 7~12. Its molar absorptivity is 8 4×10 4 L·mol -1 . cm -1 at 615 nm. Beer′s law is obeyed over the range of 0~30μg Pd(Ⅱ)/25ml. This method has been applied to the determination of palladium(Ⅱ) in ores with satisfactory results.
