ZHOU Shuo(Dept.of Chinese,Guangdong Education Institute,Guangzhou,Guangdong,510303,P.R.China)
"Poetry Expressing Wills"evolved three courses in Pre-qin Dynasty. The first was expressed as "Poetry Expressing Wills" in Shangshu·Yaodian, which was related to the activities of offering sacrifices to ancestors or gods. The second was expressed as "Poetry Is to Express Wills" in Zuo Zhuan, which had got other names as "Chanting Poetry Expressing Wills" or "Addressing Poetry Expressing Wills".Both the names prevailed during the Spring and Autumn Period. The third was expressed as "Poetry Expressing Confucian Ideals as well as their Wills" by Xun Zi,which not only ruled the content of "expressing wills" but also defined the forms of "expressing wills".Those lay the foundation for the theory of creating poetry to express wills. As a result,"Poetry Expressing Wills" become the principal aspect in classical poetry theory in China.
