Development of the Crustal Movement Observation Network in China and its Applications

The Crustal Movement Observation Network of China(CMONOC),as a National Key Scientific Infrastructural Project,has observed a great deal of GPS data and relative gravity data since 1998.These data have been playing an important role in the modeling of the kinematics and dynamics of the crustal movement of Chinese Mainland.Within the next five years,China is going to carry out the 2nd Phase project of CMONOC to greatly densify the distribution of GPS stations-both the continuously observed stations and campaign mode stations,to substantially increase the resolution of the GPS velocity field of the crustal motion.In this paper,we briefly introduce the current status and main results of the CMONOC,as well as the development plan in the 2nd Phase project.After its finish,the CMONOC will provide us with an advanced geodetic observation platform for earthquake monitoring and geoscience research.
