CFD Simulation of Smoke Control in Sloping Tunnels

The critical wind velocity in the event of a tunnel fire is an important parameter of the design of emergency ventilation systems.The critical wind velocity in sloping tunnels will be different from horizontal tunnels due to the stack effect.For tunnels with a downhill slope the critical wind velocity is somewhat greater than for the corresponding horizontal tunnel.The simulation results from the study involving tunnels with slopes between 0 and 10 percentage are presented in this paper.A general slope correction factor is derived from these results.
