Classification of Post-Earthquake Rockfalls of Highway Slopes

On the basis of site investigation on the post-earthquake rockfalls of the slopes of Yingxiu-Wolong Highway,preliminary classification of post-earthquake rockfalls of highway slope is proposed from the aspects of slope composition,rockfall time,movement mode of falle rocks,mechanism and the relationship between the source of falled materials and road.The rockfall is classified as rocky-slope,soil slope and composite slope ones according to the composition of the slope.In terms of the occuring time of rockfall,it is classified as newly-occured,re-occured and afterwards-occured ones.It may be grouped into jumped rockfall,fall-and-rolled rockfall and slided rockfall according to the movement mode of ralled rocks.Based on the comprehensive study on the rockfall disasters after earthquake,the mechanisms about how rockfalls happened are: quake-induced rupture-sliding,quake-induced rupture-toppling,quake-induced rupture-buckling failure and quake-induced rupture dislocation respectively.The rockfall is categorized as close-source one and far source one according to the relationship between the source of falled materials and road.
