GIS Viewshed Analysis of Visual Pollution Assessment for Mine Environment

From a new viewpoint,visual pollution is considered an impact assessment in mine environment.Viewshed analysis method by ArcGIS is applied to determine if the area is visual polluted by mining.The technical framework,key techniques and steps are introduced in detail in this paper.In the basic methods by ArcGIS,the visual bald mountain area caused by mining is calculated and visualized.The area where crowds always gather can be set as sensitive target,such as highways,parks or residential areas.By overlying the visual polluted area and target objects,the influence of visual pollution can be visualization and quantitative assessment.The method is applied in Nanjing.The results show that visual pollution assessment of mine based on GIS can provide more reasonable and scientific assessment.
