The management of contract nurses: using of human-oriented principle

Objective: To improve the management of contract nurses by usinghuman-oriented principle. Methods: Establishing and perfecting the management sys-tem of contract nurses. Managing contract nurses by rigorous employment standards,uncompromising entry requirements, impartial performance assessment, and compre-hensive training. Results: In the past five years, 25 of the 190 contract nurses were fired,20 of them quitted, and 145 of them (76.35%) were still working in our hospital. Contractnurses with associate degree increased from 24% to 81%. Twenty three per cent of themwere promoted as senior nurses. Nine percent of them attended in advanced specializedstudies. Conclusion: The application of human-oriented principle in the management ofcontract nurses could improve the comprehensive quality and professional develop-ment of contract nurses, stabilize nurse team and decrease human resource cost of ahospital.
