Analysis of Tunnel Stability Based on Strength Reduction Method

In order to determine the transverse stability of surrounding rock of DIIK1563+340~DIIK1563+410 section of Liuyang River Tunnel in the Wuhan-Guangzhou passenger line,strength reduction method and finite element software were used to build the simulation models with different strength reduction factors.The relations between strength reduction factor and vault settlement,ground subsidence,principal stress and plastic zones were analyzed,and failure shape of the tunnel section was analyzed as well.The results show that(1) safety factor of the tunnel is 2.3,plastic zones firstly appear on both sides near the arch foot,and then extend to the hance,then to the ground surface;(2) vault settlement,surface subsidence and plastic zone are more sensitive to the strength reduction factor.Therefore,the quality of foot anchors installation and I-beam should be ensured,vault settlement or ground subsidence should be as a major criterion for instability of the tunnel for it is easier to monitor deformation than plastic zone.
