Mechanical Performance of Interface between Cement Concrete Pavement and Lean Concrete Base Treated with Different Bond-breaking Layers

This research explored the variation of mechanical performance at slab-base interface of pavements with variety of bond-breaking layers,including emulsified asphalt slurry seal(EASS),geotextile and emulsion wax curing agent(EWCA),installed between the concrete pavement surface slabs and the lean concrete(LCB) base to offer parameters for structure analysis of pavements with bond-breaking layers and to optimize the selection of bond-breaking layers for the practical road engineering projects.Via the field mechanical performance tests of slab-base interface treated with different bond-breaking layers in some cement concrete pavements and the indoor straight-line mechanical performance tests,this research tested the bonding stresses and the frictional forces at slab-base interface of pavements under different bond-breaking conditions as well as the dynamic stresses at the bottom of indoor straight-line pavement slabs atop different bond-breaking layers.The finding from the field test for bonding stress between slab-base layers indicates that EASS and EWCA did better than geotextile as bond-breaking layers in reducing friction or bonding stress between slab-base layers.And the finding from the indoor straight-line dynamic stress test indicates that as bond-breaking layer,AC did far better than no bond-breaking layer,EASS and EWCA in alleviating stress.
