Study on Antimicrobial Resistance of Staphylococcus aureus Between Beijing and Hubei Regions During a Period of 1999-2000

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the antimicrobial resistance of clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus during a 2 period of 1999-2000. METHODS: Disc diffusion test (K-B method) was used to study the antimicrobial resistance. RESULTS: (1) The frequency of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) were different between Beijing and Hubei regions; (2) Most of Staphylococcus aureus were isolated from wound and respiratory tract secretions; of Staphylococcus aureus isolates from respiratory tract secretions, the frequency of MRSA was 59.2%(161/ 272) and 39.9%( 105/263) in Beijing and Hubei, respectively; (3) The results also revealed that the major multiresistant profiles of MRSA were (chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, enythromycin, gertamicin, sulfamethoxazole,CCpEGSt) (20.6%) and CCpESt (9.1 %) in Hubei province, and CCpEG (14.4%)and CCpEGSt (8.4%)in Beijing city; (4) The isolates of methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) from Beijing were susceptible to most of antimicrobial agents routinely used in clinic including chloramphenicol, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin and sulfamethoxazole/ trimethoprim, and same results were found in Hubei except for sulfamethoxazole/ trimethoprim. CONCLUSIONS: Multiresistant phenotypes of MRSA were different,and also antimicrobial resistance of MRSA and MSSA was some differences between Beijing and Hubei regions.
