The Structure and Wear Resistance of Plasma Sprayed Al_2O_3 + 13 %TiO_2 Ceramic Coating

The phase structure and phase composition in the plasma sprayed Al2O3+ 13 %TiO2 ceramic coatings have been investigated using X-ray diffraction and scanning electronic microscope The ceramic Coating displays rather dense, that is. it possesses a low porosity. Besides the main phase, metastable r- Al2O3, there also exist stable phase a- Al2O3 and TiO2 in the coating. The Al2O3 rich lamellae and TiO2 -rich lamellae obviously show a laminated structure and composition diffusion exists between them. Furthermore, it is found that the coating design has an effect on the micro- hardness in some degree and the additive TiO2 can largely develops the wear resistance of the ceramic coating.
