Correlation between Cation Distribution and Electrical Propertyin Spinel Ceramic Thermistor

Mn3 -xNixO4( 0 .5≤x≤ 1 .0 )andMn3 -x -yNixCuyO( 0 .5≤x≤ 1 .0 ;0≤y≤ 0 .5 )ceramicwithinversespinelstructurewere preparedbythesolidstatereactionathightemperature .XPSandXRDwereusedtoelucidatethedeterminationofthevalenciesandthe cationdistributionamongthetwosublattices .TheresultshowedthatthepercentageofNiinAsitesincreaseswithnickelcontent (x)as: w =5 49.6×e-2 .85 174x andtherelationshipbetweentheelectricalconductivityandcationdistributionwasdiscussed .Cu+occupyingBsites wasobservedinMn3 -x -yNixCuyOceramic ,whichinducingthecreationofthelargeamountsofMn4+inBsitesandproducingthesecond “hopping”mechanismofchargecarriers :Cu+oct+Mn4+oct →Cu2 +tet +Mn3 +oct .Thosecanexplainthattheconductivityandtheinstabilityinthese materialsaremuchhigherthantheCu -freematerials.
