Study on preparation and effect of optical microcavity of the Nd_2O_3-doped glass microsphere

High refractive index glass microspheres doped with Nd_2O_3 were prepared by melting down the powder of the mixture of the desired composition in a gas burner. The glass microspheres were characterized by power X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectrum. It was found that the uniformity of the component in the glass microsphere was good. The refractive index of glass was about 1.93. The strong morphology dependent resonances of the luminescence in the microsphere were observed. Based on the Mic scattering theory, the phenomenon was explained.
