Clinical and imaging study of fluoride-poisoning arthropathy

Objective To investigate clinical and imaging appearances of fluoride poisoning arthropathy and its mechanism. Methods 18 cases of fluoride poisoning arthropathy were studied. The authors also investigated the clinical appearances, MRI and radiographs of the patients. Results 18 cases had skeletal fluorosis. The clinical main appearances of fluoride poisoning arthropathy include: spinal pain, joints ache and muscles aching pain of four limbs, obvious lumbar and legs pain, limited function of joints, ankylosis spinal curvature. malformation of joints. The main imaging appearances of fluoride poisoning arthropathy include: synovial thick ening, articular capsule swelling, joint hydrops, widening or narrowing or indistinct joint space, chondral calcification of joints, corrosion and destruction of articular surface, ankylosis, loose body in articular cavity, hyper osteogeny of joints margin, calcification of ligaments and articular capsule. Conclusion Clinical and imaging appearances of fluoride poisoning arthropathy have certain reference significance in classification gradating and diagnoses of fluoride poisoning.
