Synthesis of Metal Phthalocyanine in solid state

YIN Huan-shun DENG Jian-cheng ZHOU Yan (College of Chemistry, Xiangtan University, Xiangtan 411105)  
A series of metal phthalocyanines was synthesized using phthalic anhydride, urea, metallic salt and ammonium molybdate as raw materials in the absence of a solvent. They were characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy. Cu-, Ni-, Co-, V-phthalocyanines were synthesized with high yields, except Mg- and Mn- phthalocyanines. The appropriate reaction temperatures for various metal phthalocyanines were 200-280℃, the mole ratio of urea to phthalic anhydride was 1:5, It would be beneficial to have the yields improved by adding a suitable dosage of sodium carbonate and ammonium chloride. This method provides a simple technological process, steady production with low production cost and good quality.
