Study on the Determination of Iron (Ⅲ) with Catechol Spectrophotofluorimetry

A new and sensitive fluorimetric method for determination of trace iron (Ⅲ) was developed based on the quenching effect of iron (Ⅲ) on the fluorescence of catechol solution in 0.3mol/L hydrochloric acid solution with the maximum excitation and emission wavelengths of 277nm and 313nm,respectively.The liner ranged is 1.59×10 -5mol/L to 1.26×10 -3mol/L with detection limit of 7.14×10 -6mol/L.The method was applied to the direct determination of iron in environmental water with the satisfactory result without interferes of common anions and cations.
