Genotyping of Serratia marcescens by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA method

Objective To evaluate the genetic polymorphism of Serratia marcescens by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) method. Methods Five strains of Serratia marcescens isolated from the blood of five patients in the ICU of cardiovascular surgical department were identified and antimicrobial susceptibility was detected by disk agar diffusion methods, then the genetic polymorphism of Serratia marcescens was detected with two different arbitrary primers. Results Five strains of Serratia marcescens had the same antimicrobial susceptibility spectrum. One of the arbitrary primers couldn't type, the other one could divide the Serratia marcescens into two genotypes and four strains were the same genotype, the other one was a different genotype. Conclusion There were different RAPD genotypes among five strains of Serratia marcescens, and four of which had the same type, suggesting there was prevalence of the infection.
