Optimization Design of Box Foundation Considering the Interaction of Soil, Foundation, and Superstructure

In this paper, it is proposed that a substructural method be used to condense the load and rigidity of the superstructure, the finite layered soil model be used to determine soil's rigidity and base's reaction, the self rigidity of box foundation be taken into consideration, and the in-teral forces of box foundation be analysed completely. On the above-mentioned bases, the thickness and reinforced area of slab or wall are selected as design variables,and the flexible tolerance method is employed to design optimum box foundation. Compared with the computational results of the current design method, the structural cost can be reduced about 13% when the program BFOD-88 worked out by authors is used.
