Analysis of impeller design of compound centrifugal pumps with offset short blades

QI Xue-yi, NI Yong-yan(College of Fluid Power and Control, Lanzhou Univ. of Tech., Lanzhou730050, China)  
A criterion is established for impeller design of centrifugal pumps with short blades, which states that the disposition of the latter should make the backflow in flow passage of the impeller minimum. According to this principle, the backflow patterns in the impeller with differently offset short blades are analyzed for a situation in engineering practices by using the slippery theory. Therefore, the optimal disposition of offset short blades in the centrifugal impeller is obtained. The computational result as well as the conclusion obtained is well consistent with those from the experiments.
