Research progress on metabolic and molecular regulation of lycopene

Lycopene,widely existing in various kinds of plants,is not only the main pigment of flowers and fruits of plant,but also one kind of carotenoid beneficial for human health.Many intermediate materials are involved in lycopene,s synthesis and decomposition which is regulated by many enzyme genes and the biosynthesis of other substances in plant.At present,lycopene biosynthesis pathway has been more and more researched,and some transgenic plants had been obtained through excessive expression and silencing of key genes.This paper focused on the research progress of lycopene biosynthesis genes,some factors affecting lycopene biosynthesis pathway and some genetic engineering studies for improving the lycopene contents in plants,in order to give a reference to future study in the field of transgenic of lycopene biosynthesis genes and plants breeding of high lycopene content.
