Overcoming the Alternate Bearing of the Arbutus by Changing the Timing of Fertilizer Application

Arbutus plants are cultivated in the non-irrigation regions in China.For arbutus,the fertilization wasusually carried out in July after harvest.During this period,it is difficult for the arbutus tree to absorb thefertilizer from soil due to the high temperature and dry weather,which restrict the summer shoot growth andflower bud formation,More new shoots and bearing branches can produced,and alternate bearing can mini-mized when fertilizer applied at both the spring and the summer shooting.When 500 mg·l ̄(-1) paclobutrazolspray was supplemented before the formation of the summer flushes,the yield was increased and the ampli-tude of the alternate bearing was further decreased.
