Effects of prescriptions formed by Chinese herbal medicine with different principles on the laying performance, hormone and antioxidative function in laying hens

225 130-day-old laying hens were divided into 5 groups equally. 4 prescriptions formed by Chinese herbal medicine with different principles were added into the diet given to group 1-4 respectively. Group 5, as the control were fed with the diet without Chinese herbal medicine. Performance indexes, such as laying rate, egg weight per hen in one day, feed conversion rate and mean weight per egg were studied. At the beginning and the end of the experiment, blood of 12 hens in each group were sampled, estradiol (E2), glucagon (Glu), thyroxine (T4), 3,3,5-triiodothyronine (T3), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malonadehyde (MDA) contents, and the antibody titre of IBDV in the serum were measured respectively. The results indicated that the prescription(group 4) formed with the principle of readjusting vital energy and blood could improve the performance, the laying rate, egg weight per hen in one day, feed conversion rate were all high than that of the control group and other 3 groups. The value of E2 and T3, SOD activity and IBD antibody in the serum were improved, at the same time, the contents of T4 and MDA were decreased. In conclusion, the performance of laying hens could be enhanced by the prescription formed with the principle of readjusting vital energy and blood, which could improve the function of endocrine-immunity system and oxidative resistance.
