Removal of Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) from Source Water of Huangpujiang River by Coagulation and Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) Process

A study on removal of DOM from source water of Huangpujiang River by coagulation and PAC process was carried out. The results showed that coagulation process was more effective in removing DOM with molecular weight higher than 4 000 u, but less effective in removing that with molecular weight lower than 4 000 u. PAC process was more effective in removing low molecular weight DOM, but less effective in removing high molecular weight DOM. The effect of molecular weight of DOM on adsorption was diminished when dosage of PAC was high. DOM in the Huangpujiang River with molecular weight lower than 4 000 u was difficult to be removed by PAC.
