Optimization of Backwashing Technology for Biological Activated Carbon Filter

Backwashing process is a critical step in the operation of biological activated carbon (BAC) filter. Optimization of backwashing process is favorable to the improvement of operation performance as a whole. Therefore, the evaluative indexes such as backwashing wastewater turbidity, variation in head loss, removal of organic pollutants, and bacteria count in treated water are used to compare and analyze the effect of four different backwashing methods on the operation of BAC filter. It is believed that air-water backwashing is most suitable for the filter.
