Influencing Factors of Efficiency of Phosphate Removal by Calcite

Factors which influence the efficiency of phosphate removal by calcite were researched.The results show that the efficiency of phosphate removal by calcite can be enhanced by Ca~(2+),which means the more Ca~(2+),the higher the removal efficiency.When saturation index of calcium carbonate(SI_(CaCO_3)) 0,the efficiency of phosphate removal by calcite will decrease with the increase of HCO~-_3.However,when SI_(CaCO_3)≥ 0,its efficiency will increase with the increase of HCO~-_3.Also,its efficiency will increase with increase of reaction time.Phosphate removal under high temperature is more efficient than that under low temperature.Used calcites become more efficient than the original calcites due to the coverage of the newly formed crystals on them.With pH value increase from 5 to 9,the removal efficiency will fall down at low Ca~(2+) concentration.However,the removal efficiency will only be slightly affected by the pH value at high Ca~(2+) concentration.Furthermore,the particle size also influences the performance of phosphate removal by calcite.
