Analysis of Doppler Radar Products Features of Severe Convective Events in Ningxia in 2003 and 2004

Using the new generation weather radar(CINRAD) data including echo intensity, velocity, composite reflectivity, hail index, profile, storm tracing information, VIL and meso-cyclone, 12 severe convective weather events occurred in 2003 and 2004 in Ningxia were studied. According to image characteristics, radial velocity products were classified as 3 types, and were analyzed respectively from meso-scale synoptic principle. Results show that the products of CINRAD are useful to forecast severe convective events, especially hail. Meanwhile, the comparison analysis was given also between CINRAD and routine weather radar in this paper.
