Identification of Four Original Species of Xihuangcao by 2D Infrared Correlation Spectroscopy

Four original species of Chinese medicine‘Xihuangcao'were analyzed and evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and two-dimensional correlation infrared spectroscopy(2D-IR)in this paper.The results showed that the esters,carboxylic acids,flavonoids,lignins,aromatics and glycosides were commonly contained in four original species of Chinese medicine‘Xihuangcao'.But their relative contents were significantly different.The quantity of esters,carboxylic acids,lignins,aromatics in I.lophanthoides var.graciliflorus and I.serra were higher than those that in I.lophanthoides and I.lophanthoides var.gerardianus.While the quantity of flavonoids in the I.lophanthoides and I.lophanthoides var.gerardianus were higher than those that in I.lophanthoides var.graciliflorus and I.serra.In 2Dsynchronous correlation spectra,based on the differences in the position,number and relative intensity of autopeaks of samples,four original species of Chinese medicine‘Xihuangcao'could be identified.It is demonstrated that two-dimensional correlation infrared spectroscopy can offer a rapid,nondestructive,objective,low-cost and good repeatability approach for analyzing and evaluating different original species of Chinese medicine‘Xihuangcao'.
