During the latest Permian (Changhsingian) and the earliest Triassic, the bordering region of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui Provinces was situated on the northeastern margin of the South China Sea. In this region, there are many continuous Permian—Triassic sections, in which the lithofacies and faunal assemblages are well developed and varied. This paper gives a description of the lithofacies and biofacies of the Changhsingian and the Permian—Triassic boundary beds, with special reference to the relationship between the specific environment and the vicissitude of biotas.
