A cultural interpretation of the image of generals with literary grace in Chinese historical romances

In the Chinese historical romances written in the Ming and Qing dynasties, there are generals with literary grace such as Guan Yu, Yang Liulang, Yue Fei and Qin Shubao. They enjoy the love and esteem of rulers and common people as well, and exert great influence. Why is the charm of their personality so great? This article analyses their external and internal virtues, revealing the rich cultural psychological factors which reflect some aspects of the Chinese culture character. Meanwhile, the article also explores the cultural function and aesthetic value of these generals' tragic lot. \ \
