Preparation and Properties of Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer with Triethanolamine (TEA) as Side Chain

4-(2-(bis(2-hydroxyethyl) amino) ethoxy)-4-oxobut-2-enoic acid(FA-TEA) was synthesized by esterification of Fumaric acid(FA) and triethanolamine(TEA). The production ratio was 65%,by the esterification rate. A new polycarboxylate-based superplasticizer with triethanolamine side chain was synthesized by free radical solution copolymerization of acrylic acid(AA),sodium methylacrylsulfonate(SMAS),FA-TEA and TPEG. Through the paste flowability,setting time and free water to characterize its performance. This polycarboxylate-based superplasticizer ' s ester bond hydrolysis in alkaline conditions,carboxylate release,adsorption again,the triethanolamine side chains' hydration shell has a ability to slip which could enhance disperse ability.
