Synthesis of SiO_2/α-Fe_2O_3 Porous Structure and Cr( VI) Adsorption Property

Fabricating porous structures is an effect method to improve its performance in heavy metal adsorption. In this study,SiO2/β-FeOOH core shell structures were prepared by stober method. The influences of the mol ratio of tetraethylorthosilicate to ammonia and the coating times on the thickness of SiO2 layer were investigated. After calcination at 500 ℃,SiO2/ α-Fe2O3 porous structures were obtained and showed great adsorption property. Their adsorption activities were determined using Cr(VI) aqueous solution. The kinetic removal of Cr(VI),the equilibrium adsorption isotherm,and the influences of the thickness of SiO2 layer were studied. SiO2/α-Fe2O3porous structures with the thickness of SiO2 layer of 50 nm exhibited better Cr(VI) adsorption property.
