Amine-functionalized Chitosan-Silica Composite Aerogels for Divalent Metal Ion Adsorption

Chitosan-silica composite aerogels were synthesized by sol-gel method with ambient pressure drying process. Then, amino-modified groups were spotted on composite aerogels surface which hydrolyzed with the organic modifiers. These composite aerogel materials were also characterized by scanning electron microscope( SEM), small angle X-ray scattering( SAXS), nitrogen adsorption stripping,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy( FTIR) and elemental analysis. The results showed that these composite aerogel materials retained the silica aerogel typical mesoporous structure. Moreover,the adsorption effect of amino modified silica aerogel composite materials for Cu( Ⅱ),Cd( Ⅱ),Pb( Ⅱ) ion were obviously enhanced,the saturated adsorption amount of Pb( Ⅱ) ions was increased from10. 3 mg / g to 42. 5 mg / g.
