Effect of Spherical Aluminum Powder on Combustion Properties of Low Burning Rate HTPB Propellant

The effect of spherical aluminum prowder on the combustion properties of the HTPB propellant is studied by means of both static burning properties measurement and dynamic test of the Φ112mm evaluation test motor. The results show that the burning rate exponent of the spherical aluminum propellant is higher than that of the non spherical aluminum propellant and the burning rate of the spherical aluminum propellant at low pressure is lower than that of the non spherical propellant. The reason of low burning rate at low pressure is that the ignition delay of spherical aluminum powder is much longer than that of the non spherical aluminum powder.
